Last Day in India

Indian Deep Dish PizzaToday is our final day in India, this trip. Tonight we fly to Hong Kong. Early tomorrow morning we have a brief layover in Thailand.

Our work in Hong Kong will focus on Disability issues. I have been thinking about my workshop in Hong Kong and writing my thoughts at Gimp Stories, my Disability focused blog. I am looking forward to meeting those who have chosen to work with me.

I just had lunch at the veg restaurant across the road from our gust house. As seemingly always, the food was excellent and inexpensive, and the staff was friendly. I have intended to take photos of meals, and have mostly failed. Above is a deep dish pizza Indian style; below is a photo of lunch in Kochi. Maybe I will do better in Hong Kong.

Chennai is a city of contradictions: poverty and wealth, deeply held South Indian Lunchspiritual practices and senseless violence, respect for women and elders and brutal assaults against them. It is also a growing city. In 2009 there were an estimated 4,5000,000 people here. Today, estimates range from 5 to 8 million. Yet, even as it grows, it seems to maintain a center and an identity.

As always, I leave with a deeply rooted appreciation for those who make our stays here pleasant, fulfilling, and memorable. My heart-felt thanks to all of you.

It appears that no matter how far one travels, one always encounters a little bit of home.

Thank you, Michael for your continued travelogue.

    Safe journeys!

  3. The food looks delicious! The visit sounds mixed, but mostly wonderful. Enjoy Hong Kong!
