  1. Indeed, it is not easy to witness the actions of many who call themselves Christian. Even though I am agnostic , I was educated by Catholic nuns and I remember the teachings. Too many so-called Christians now are charlatans. I fear for this planet. But I am glad to hear of your little ducks and the ospreys. Looking to Nature is always a help.

    1. Yes, there is a deep anxiety about or lives and the planet, and it seems to be growing across much of the world. Still, there are valued prophetic voices out there, demanding justice and sanity, most not insisting there is one way to believe or understand the universe.

  2. True. Well shared Amen 🙏🏼

  3. Yes, for the most part great wealth does not seem to lead to greatness of character. A couple of exceptions—Abigail Disney and Nick Hanaeur (the latter is the host of the podcast Pitchfork Economics.) On another subject…Maine has been very dry this summer. Funny how just south of us where you live there has been enough rain

    1. Hi Laurie,
Yes, there have been some very notable exceptions, some of whom I knew or know. I have always been an admirer and am deeply grateful for their passion, kindness, and generosity. Thank you for the referral to the podcast!
The past couple of weeks have been dry here as well, much of the rain passing just south. We have noticed that much of Maine is dry and we are hoping you get a gentle, thorough soaking soon.

  4. Hello Michael, you offer much to think about in this post. I’m happy to hear the ospry are more abundant in your new area. I’m finally able to work outside today on the patio and am noticing how many fewer butterflies are in the garden. Every year their numbers decline, especially the monarchs.

    1. Mary, I have strong memories of endless insects in my youth. So much loss. Yet, I am reminded that we must act and hope. We are taking out most of our small yard and putting in a prairie. Many of our neighbors have as well. Perhaps as a result, Jennie and I are seeing many more pollinators, especially butterflies. Still, their numbers fall and we work.

  5. As a Christian, I am appalled by how “so-called Christians” are acting, and that is nothing like Christians. You’re absolutely right that Jesus calls upon us to be humble, kind, loving, compassionate, etc. I see none of that in individuals who proclaim to be Christians and act and speak exactly the opposite. That frustrates me to no end.

    1. So painful to hear and witness!
