  1. Observing the atmosphere these past couple of days, I looked to see what was the cause and noted it was worse down your way, so I have been thinking of you. Strangely, while the light here is gloomy and oppressive, we can’t actually smell smoke the way we usually do – for now, anyway. We too could use rain. Hope you get some to clear the air soon. Take care of yourselves!

    1. Things are better this morning but not great, so another day mostly inside. We are told that tomorrow will be glorious, so there is hope. For now, we can still smell the smoke.

  2. Stay safe inside, Michael…it’s pretty bad until late Thursday night into Friday here in MA (I can’t remember if it ends there in RI at the same time or a little later). I have a 20-year old Ragdoll kitty with late kidney disease who can’t understand why I won’t let her go outside right now. (smile) She finally opted to just take another lengthy nap. (smile) Be well….

    1. Anita, Nori is frustrated that the windows and doors are closed as well. Things are better this morning but no outside for me. Forecast is for fine weather by midnight! I hope your kitty finally gets to go out.

      1. Yes, we should all get a reprieve by midnight! Yay! Until then, I am staying indoors! Cats are such free spirits, and don’t understand why we “trap” them inside, but I do think they know we always have their best interests at heart! My cat Bubbles seems to have resigned herself to staying in until tomorrow, since she doesn’t seem as bothered today as yesterday. (smile) Wishing you, Nori and family much nicer weather to enjoy tomorrow, Michael!

        1. Here! Here! Le2t that be so!

  3. We have the smoke along with the heat and humidity which makes for a very unhealthy air quality. I had to quit working outside yesterday morning. Seems like winter when one can’t go outside. 🙂

    1. Yes, very winter like! Somewhat better this morning but still marooned inside. Nori is not pleased.

  4. It’s also smoky here in the Chicago area. I understand that downtown is the worst. I am sad not to be able to be outside. I love the summer so. Be safe and well, Michael.

    1. I hope things soon improve for you. I know Chicago is closer to the fires. We are told things will improve greatly for us later tonight.

  5. Though we are so far apart it has seemed from many of your posts that we suffer the same things. Hill fires have unfortunately become a regular summer thing here. It doesn’t help when, in regard to a a local one, a group of youths thought that, after a friend tragically died in a reservoir, a good way to celebrate his life was to drive up to the tinder-dry moors and let fireworks off. In the daytime too.
Firefighters are still battling the consequences several weeks later.

    1. Hi Andy,
Yes, bad actors are a huge problem. Canadian wildfires are a natural occurrence but bad actors, and especially climate collapse, have made them much worse. Now our beloved president and his insane cohort want to punish Canada for their inability to limit the impacts of conditions we have essentially caused. Things get more insane every day.

  6. I’m sorry the wildfire smoke is affecting your area also. You are wise to stay indoors, as difficult as that sometimes can be. I, too, like having my windows open and am weary of the air conditioning. But it’s a reason to feel thankful for the coolness inside.

    1. Audrey, it is such a relief to have doors and windows open! May it continue!

  7. Enjoying the open windows today. Certainly was a mess a few weeks back – red sun in the morning, cancelled outdoor eating and gigs. Grateful that by the time we headed to Erie for our anniversary, the air quality had improved. Started to write a poem about the hazy days caused by the smoke as I listened to the birds still singing in the trees, but never finished it.

  8. Hi Michael…I can remember being encased in smoke and needing to stay indoors with the a/c running. Sending lots of healing energy to you and Nori! I remember one time traveling on I-95 and it was closed. Just as we were about to get off the detour, the road opened…But we had to drive where the fire had recently jumped across the highway! There were still embers glowing alongside the road and the smoke was so thick…frightening! Take good care of yourselves…hope the air quality it better now!
