  1. We sure do, and how sickening they are. It is also sickening that so many people still support them, cheer them on, even. A minority, true, but a big one. What is it about authoritarianism that attracts so many people? Around the world, it averages to a little over 30% of the population, and that’s what it is in this country. Shows what a large minority can accomplish.

    1. Laurie, maybe there is something hopeful there. If they can accomplish so much, perhaps we can, also. The other thing I try to keep in mind is that minority efforts that do not aid the majority seldom last. here will be a backlash, just as we are seeing one from the right now. Here’s hoping anyway.

That so many continue to support evil really is bewildering. (That said, we know a good many basically good people who feel profoundly marginalized and supported those who have unleashed the madness. Their suffering was ignored by the left.)

  2. You make good points, Michael. Greed affects the majority but rarely the one who causes the pain. We are a world stressed from the tension.

    1. Mary, we are all so stressed. Trying to practice self care….

  3. Michael, as always, I appreciate your thoughtful writing. I learn. I empathize. I grow.

On Saturday I stood side-by-side with about two dozen others in my community of 25,000 in southern Minnesota to protest. Support from motorists was overwhelmingly positive with some negative response (the usual middle finger, venomous words…). Mostly, though, was the courage I noted among protesters, the majority of whose skin tones were other than white. I was humbled and honored to stand next to them as they expressed gratitude for my presence. They have tremendous courage and fortitude as masked agents continue to terrorize my community, my state, my country. Onward with hope and bravery!

Thank you for being you and for standing in solidarity.

  4. Indeed we do. Years ago, when morphine sent me “walkabout” for three days, I had sort of nightmare/vision in which the planet was flooded almost entirely. It seemed very prophetic and left me feeling unsettled for a long time.

  5. These are challenging times we live in, and as I read the news I sometimes wonder if it is a joke that is not funny at all. It is all very distressing and on a daily basis I choose how much I can take in that day without my day being ruined. My mind can only handle so much. I applaud those who have expressed their dissatisfaction in a peaceful manner and just wish it would make a difference.
