Dreaming the World

A lovely spring day, cool and bright. Here on the south coast spring continues to lag behind areas further inland, as we are reminded every time we go to Providence. Everyone here describes the trip to Providence as “down” but it is really over and up.

Many trees are in full bloom, some are past spring peak, while others are still contemplating coming into flower. The rabbits are now out in the yard more of the time; one has taken a great liking to the birdseed Jennie puts down under the feeders. A young deer also enjoys the feed, a first as far as I know, for this house.

We are regularly visited and serenaded by largish mixed flocks of birds, events that capture our, and Nori’s, attention. Occasionally birds, especially doves and sparrows, land on, and hang out on, the deck, occasions that may get Nori to chirp wildly.

A couple of evenings ago a young, very healthy looking fox appeared on the deck. It ran around sniffing intently, undoubtedly hunting the rabbits that have a warren under the deck. It was all quite exciting. We believe the fox went away hungry.

The packing for our move proceeds apace, and most of our rooms have acquired piles of boxes. We are at the point where the chaos is beginning to impact us deeply, especially Nori, and there are still eight weeks until the move. Our studios are mostly packed, save for enough gear and materials to allow some creative work should we get passed the chaos induced sense of overwhelm.

When we are out and about, the spring enormity reminds us that everything is alive, seeks connection, and wants to continue to live. We are all joined in an unimaginably vibrant web of connection. I so wish those in power experienced the beauty and enormity of our shared fate, even as I know that destruction is an essential part of this grand web of shared experience.
