Today has been a fine early summer day, pleasantly warm and breezy. The trees that line our backyard are fully, densely leafed out, and this morning they were filled with bird chatter and song. It was remarkable, really. There are rabbits seemingly everywhere, and earlier, while I was glued to work on the screen, Jennie saw a large deer run through the yard.
It seems breeding season is now at its height. In a few weeks the morning cacophony of birdsong will diminish, although here near the ocean where the breeding season is long it never entirely fades away. Still, my fall and recovery have had the odd effect of having spring pass much to quickly.
As to my recovery, it is going well, and I have graduated from PT and OT, if not from their exercises. I am relearning how to drive and have been out on the trike briefly. Most mornings, I get myself dressed, and in the evening, I get myself to bed, both major accomplishments along the road to recovery. We’ve even had a couple of long outings, which, while exhausting, have been marvelous.
A few days after arriving home from rehab I began working on a sound piece incorporating the snippets of ER sound Jennie grabbed for me. The piece has gone through any number of iterations and this morning I realized that I might best just work on it and get it launched. The piece, In The ER, is the first section of what I hope might be a triptych about my experience of the fall. We shall see what happens.
Here is In the ER. The first half is noisy and a bit chaotic as fits the ER. The second half not so much. While I was in the ER for 24 hours before my surgery, the piece is only some 6 minutes in length, although parts may, just like stays in the ER, seem interminable….
