Today is bright, sunny and breezy. The mornings are still filled with birdsong, the gardens are growing, and the weeds are out of control. The other day a hawk chased a cardinal from one of our backyard trees and the two flew quickly out of sight. Yesterday a doe wandered through in the middle of the day.
The news has been filled with doomsday prophesy which I find wearing, even as I strive to ignore it. Maybe my fall contributed to my growing sense that the world is both dear and fragile. This morning I awoke with the thought: “What if everyone stopped marking armaments and put all those resources to solving the immense problems we collectively face?”
I’m finally able to get out some and to drive a bit before I need a nap. Perhaps the relief of this has given me some creative space and I have spent time in both studios! This morning I worked on this generative piece, Summer Marsh, part of my ongoing Marsh Project.
I love the summer marsh, the constant movement of the tides, arctic terns, and osprey! Speaking of osprey, the chicks have begun to stick their heads up so we can see them over the top of the nest. We’ve had quite a lot of heavy rain and high wind, and I find myself fretting about their welfare but so far, so good. Here is Midsummer Marsh:
